Second Meeting of the EGMP Modelling Consortium held in Kalø, Denmark

The second meeting of the European Goose Management Platform’s International Modelling Consortium successfully took place from 21 to 22 March 2019, in Kalø, Denmark. The Consortium, which is coordinated by the EGMP Data Centre at Aarhus University, is collaborating on the development of goose population models. The first meeting, was also held in Kalø in January last year.

AEWA Technical Committee Meets in Bonn

The 15th Meeting of the AEWA Technical Committee is scheduled to take place in Bonn 9-11 April, the first time since last year’s 7th Session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP7) in Durban, South Africa. As well as taking reports form the Secretariat and Regional Representatives, the Technical Committee will be electing its officers for the period 2019-2021, including a replacement for the outgoing Chair, Dr Saulius Svazas of Lithuania, who stepped down at MOP7 after concluding his two terms as member of the Committee.

Serbia Accedes to AEWA as Party No. 79

The UNEP/AEWA Secretariat is pleased to announce the accession of the Republic of Serbia as AEWA’s 79th Party with the country’s membership of the Agreement taking effect on 1 March. Serbia is a landlocked country in the Balkans peninsula, and its capital is Belgrade. The country’s terrain is characterized by its location in the Balkan Mountains and on the Pannonian and Wallachian Plains.

Netherlands Hosts European Goose Management Meetings

Representatives of Range State Governments, designated national experts and key stakeholders came together in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands from 20 to 21 June for the 3rd annual meeting of the AEWA European Goose Management International Working Group (AEWA EGM IWG). The meeting was kindly hosted by the Province of Friesland and chaired by Mr. Øystein Størkersen, representing Norway.

AEWA Standing Committee Meets in The Hague

The 13th Meeting of the AEWA Standing Committee took place from 3- 5 July 2018 in The Hague, the Netherlands. The meeting was kindly hosted by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and was chaired by Dr. Barirega Akankwasah of Uganda.
The three-day meeting was the final intersessional meeting of the Committee ahead of the Seventh Meeting of the Parties to AEWA (MOP 7) due to take place 4-8 December in South Africa later this year.

AEWA Technical Committee Meets in Bonn

The 14th Meeting of the AEWA Technical Committee (TC14) took place in Bonn from 10 to 13 April 2018. The Regional Representatives on the Committee reported on the status of implementation in their geographic areas since the last meeting in 2016. The Technical Committee focused on finalizing tasks from its Work Plan 2016-2018 that involved reviewing numerous documents in preparation for the 7th Session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP7), which will be held in South Africa from 4 to 8 December 2018.

International Conference Calls on Governments for Action to Combat Illegal Killing, Poisoning and Illicit Trade of Wild Birds in the Adriatic Flyway

From 19 to 23 March 2018, the 3rd Adriatic Flyway Conference took place in Fruška Gora National Park, Serbia, organized by EuroNatur and the Bird Protection and Study Society of Serbia (BPSSS, BirdLife Serbia). At this meeting, Officials of the Government of Serbia and more than 80 experts and affiliates of Bird Conservation NGOs from central and south-eastern European countries presented and discussed recent findings on the monitoring of migratory bird populations, their conservation status, ecological dynamics and their habitats in the Adriatic Flyway region.
