2023/008: Junior Professional Officer (JPO)

The Secretariat would like to draw attention to the Resolutions 8.12 on Financial and Administrative Matters1 and 8.11 on Institutional Arrangements: Technical Committee, which invite Parties to consider the feasibility of providing gratis personnel and/or junior professional officers, in accordance with the United Nations rules and regulations, to strengthen the capacity of the Agreement Secretariat;  and to prioritise and allocate a JPO to the UNEP/AEWA Secretariat for Technical Committee support, in order to strengthen the Secretariat in its role of facilitator of the Technical Committee.

As a matter of course, the Secretariat has recently presented a proposal for an “Associate Technical Officer (JPO)” to UNEP which coordinates the JPO programme for all UNEP-affiliated entities. Recognizing the expanding portfolio of the Technical Committee and the growing workload of the Secretariat the JPO is suggested to primarily support the operations of the Technical Committee and contribute to the work of the AEWA International Species Working Groups, the Implementation Review Process and the regular tasks of the Secretariat.

The Secretariat invites AEWA focal points to bring the enclosed proposal to the attention of their JPO coordinators in their respective countries.

Please contact the Secretariat at aewa.secretariat@unep-aewa.org, if you have questions or require more information on the JPO proposal.
