Criteria and procedures for cycle 2021
 

Categories

One AEWA Award shall be presented in each of the following categories:

a) The "Institutional Category" rewarding activities by governments, organisations, enterprises, etc. - including legislation, strategies, plans, programmes, projects, investments, and campaigns - that have significantly contributed, or have a clear potential to contribute, to (i) the development of the Agreement, (ii) the conservation of species, (iii) the conservation of their habitats, (iv) the management of human activities, (v) research and monitoring, and (vi) education and information.

b) The "Individual Category" rewarding activities by individuals that have significantly contributed, or have a clear potential to contribute, to (i) the development of the Agreement, (ii) the conservation of species, (iii) the conservation of their habitats, (iv) the management of human activities, (v) research and monitoring, and (vi) education and information.

Eligibility

Institutions and citizens of all nations are invited to nominate individuals or institutions - governmental and non-governmental, including community groups or private sector enterprises - of any country in the Agreement area for the respective award category.

Institutions and individuals not eligible for the award are as follows:

  • Institutions and organisations, including their staff, whose representatives are currently serving on the AEWA Standing Committee.
  • Institutions and organisations whose representatives are currently serving on the AEWA Technical Committee.
  • Persons currently serving on the AEWA Standing or Technical Committees.
  • Current UNEP/AEWA Secretariat staff.

Nominations Procedure

Nominations should be submitted to the AEWA Secretariat in English, using the standard AEWA Award Nomination Form, accompanied by all appropriate supporting documentation and references.

The closing date for nominations for this sixth round of the AEWA Award is 10 July 2021. This date shall be final.

Selection Procedure

The AEWA Secretariat shall collate and process the nominations received and submit them for the consideration of the Standing Committee. The Standing Committee shall select the winners. This decision shall be final.

The award in any of the categories cannot be shared and will be presented to one nominee only.

In the absence of a suitable candidate for any of the categories the AEWA Standing Committee reserves the right not to grant an award.

Announcement and Presentation of the Award

The announcement of the award winners on each occasion shall be made by a press release as soon as all winners have confirmed their acceptance of the award. The winners should be available to attend the presentation ceremony and make an address. For this purpose, they will be provided with economy travel and accommodation to attend the ceremony.

The AEWA Award will be presented at the opening ceremony of the 8th Session of the Meeting of the Parties on 5 October 2021.

Possible cash award

Please note that the AEWA Award 2021 will not be accompanied by a cash prize due to the lack of funding.

Prix de la conservation de l'AEWA 2018

Lors de la cérémonie d'ouverture de la 7e session de la Réunion des Parties (MOP7) qui se déroule du 4 au 8 décembre 2018 à Durban, en Afrique du Sud, le Secteur de la conservation de la nature (NCS) de l'Agence égyptienne des affaires environnementales, ministère de l'Environnement, a été déclaré lauréat du Prix de la conservation de l'AEWA dans la catégorie institutionnelle, tandis que M. Ohad Hatzofe, écologiste aviaire de l'Autorité israélienne de la nature et des parcs, avait été déclaré lauréat du Prix de la conservation de l'AEWA pour la catégorie individuelle.

Le Prix 2015 de l’AEWA est décerné à…

Les lauréats du Prix de la conservation des oiseaux d’eau 2015 de l’AEWA sont : l’Association Inter-Villageoise du Ndiaël dans la catégorie institutionnelle et M. Abdoulaye N’Diaye dans la catégorie individuelle. L’Association Inter-Villageoise du Ndiaël a été créée en 2004 et rassemble 32 villages aux alentours de la réserve spéciale de faune du Ndiaël. Basée à Ross-Béthio, Sénégal, elle compte 800 membres et son objectif principal est de permettre aux communautés locales d’entreprendre des activités visant à rétablir la faune vivant dans la réserve. Couvrant une superficie de 46°550 hectares, Ndiaël est un site Ramsar et un noyau central de la réserve de biosphère transfrontalière du delta du fleuve du Sénégal. La réserve a également été identifiée comme un site critique pour les oiseaux d’eau migrateurs dans le cadre de l’Application Réseau de sites critiques (CSN).

Prix de la conservation 2012 de l’AEWA

Les lauréats du Prix de la conservation des oiseaux d’eau 2012 de l’AEWA sont… Le feu docteur Brooks Childress dans la catégorie individuelle et le Groupe international d’étude sur les échassiers dans la catégorie institutionnelle ont remporté le Prix de la conservation des oiseaux d’eau 2012 de l’AEWA. Le Prix, qui distingue les contributions à la conservation, la recherche et la surveillance des oiseaux d’eau migrateurs, ainsi que l’aide au développement de l’AEWA, a été présenté lors de la cérémonie d’ouverture de la 5ème session de la Réunion des Parties à l’AEWA, le 14 mai 2012 à La Rochelle, France.

Prix de la conservation 2008 de l’AEWA

Les lauréats du Prix de la conservation des oiseaux d’eau 2008 de l’AEWA sont… M. Mark Anderson dans la catégorie individuelle et l’OMPO (Oiseaux Migrateurs du Paléarctique Occidental) dans la catégorie institutionnelle ont remporté le Prix de la conservation des oiseaux d’eau 2008 de l’AEWA. Le Prix, qui distingue les contributions à la conservation, la recherche et la surveillance des oiseaux d’eau migrateurs, ainsi que l’aide au développement de l’AEWA, a été présenté lors de la cérémonie d’ouverture de la 4ème session de la Réunion des Parties à l’AEWA, le 15 septembre 2008 à Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Prix de la conservation 2005 de l’AEWA

Le Prix 2005 de l’AEWA est décerné à… M. David A. Stroud dans la catégorie individuelle et le gouvernement des Pays-Bas, représenté par le ministère de l’Agriculture, de la Nature et de la Qualité des aliments (LNV) dans la catégorie institutionnelle ont été les lauréats sélectionnés pour recevoir le Prix de la conservation des oiseaux d’eau 2005 de l’AEWA, qui a été remis lors de la cérémonie d’ouverture de la 3ème session de la Réunion des Parties, le 23 octobre 2005 (Dakar, Sénégal). Ce Prix leur est décerné pour leur contribution exceptionnelle au développement et à la mise en œuvre de l’Accord sur la conservation des oiseaux d’eau d’Afrique-Eurasie, comme l’a décidé le Comité permanent à l’occasion de sa réunion des 4 et 5 juillet 2005. En outre, M. Gerard C. Boere a été déclaré Président honorifique de l’AEWA pour le rôle déterminant qu’il a joué dans le processus de rédaction et de négociation de l’Accord.
