Essam first had dealings with AEWA in 2008. Although he was not the National Focal Point for the Agreement at the time, he attended the 4th Meeting of the Parties in Madagascar. The MOP presented the opportunity for Essam to meet many professionals with an active interest in birds, all sharing and exchanging information.

Libuse works in the Department of the Conservation of Species and Implementation of International Agreements in the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic. When she started work there in 2001, one of her first tasks was to oversee the process of the Czech Republic’s accession to AEWA, which she found a great challenge.

AEWA Standing Committee Meeting Held in Uganda

The 10th Meeting of the AEWA Standing Committee (StC10) was held from 8 to10 July in Kampala at the kind invitation of the Ugandan Government. The meeting was the first AEWA Standing Committee to take place in Africa and was an important milestone in the run-up to the 6th Session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP6) due to take place 9-14 November 2015 in Bonn, Germany.

Cy Griffin is Director of Conservation of the European Federation of Associations for Hunting and Conservation (FACE) where he is responsible for work related to nature and wildlife conservation.
