- 30 May 2008 - The AEWA Secretariat and the Wings
Over Wetlands (WOW) Project Partnership used the ninth Conference
of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity
(CBD COP9) as an opportunity to present the Agreement and
the UNEP-GEF Flyways Project to the 5000+ international
delegates attending the meeting.
A dedicated
side event was organised by the AEWA Secretariat
in close cooperation with the WOW Project Partnership on
the sidelines of CBD COP9 on Monday, 26 May 2008. The event
highlighted the Critical
Sites Network (CSN) Tool being developed under
Wings Over Wetlands (WOW) Project and used the theme of
the recent World Migratory Bird Day: "Migratory
Birds - Ambassadors for Biodiversity" to draw
attention to the link between the conservation and identification
of sites required by migratory birds and the conservation
of wider biodiversity. At the side event a first preliminary
(beta) version of the Critical Sites Network (CSN) Tool
was presented to attending delegates.
For more information please see the seperate
announcement on the SIDE
EVENT and the SIDE
