Bonn, 22 August 2007 - the AEWA Secretariat joined
the UNEP/CMS Family and other Bonn-based UN agencies in
participating in this year's "Bonn Open Day 2007" on Sunday,
19 August 2007. (In German the event is called "Tag der
offenen Tür" which literally means "the day of open
doors"). The event, initiated by the City of Bonn, took
place in the former governmental district of the city from
10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. under the common theme "International
Bonn".
More than one thousand interested visitors
had the opportunity to gain insight into the work of the
UN agencies in Bonn and could enjoy the stunning view from
the 29th floor of the Langer Eugen. In addition to the 13
+ UN agencies co-located with the AEWA Secretariat at the
UN Premises, several other international institutions such
as the German international broadcasting cooperation (Deutsche
Welle), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation
and Development (BMZ) and the Deutsche Telekom joined the
initiative and opened their doors to the public on this
Sunday.
Several staff members of the CMS Family;
among them three staff members of AEWA, helped to make this
day a success. A lot of information material was distributed
at the CMS Family stand and visitors could learn more about
the work of AEWA and the other co-located UNEP organisations
directly from staff.
The "Open Day" was a good opportunity
to raise local awareness about the role the UN plays in
regard to the conservation of species and about the presence
of CMS and its daughter Agreements at the new UN Premises
in Bonn.
