With the productive outcome of 20 adopted
resolutions the
Third Meeting of the Parties to AEWA
(23 – 27 October 2005 in Dakar, Senegal) has paved
the way for a host of activities to be implemented within
the next three years. One important issue was the adoption
of the Communication Strategy, which is expected to bring
major improvements in internal and external communication,
capacity building and public awareness. Important public
awareness-raising elements such as this E-Newsletter have
already been implemented. However, the activities identified
for the forthcoming Triennium will require € 457,495
in additional financial support, as these activities are
not covered by the regular budget.
The total cost of implementing the decisions
taken by MOP3, including the Communication Strategy, will
be € 5,211,978. The Secretariat is therefore strongly
appealing to Parties, Range States and any other stakeholders
in the AEWA region to help provide the additional resources
needed to implement the Agreement (see Resolution
3.14).
