People behind AEWA - The Team of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Protection, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB)

Bonn, 21 December 2015 - Germany hosts the AEWA Secretariat which is housed alongside other UN bodies including other members of the CMS Family in Langer Eugen (Tall Eugene) which used to accommodate the offices of German Parliamentarians but now forms part of the UN Campus in Bonn.

In addition to providing the Secretariat with a “roof over its head”, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Protection, Building and Nuclear Safety – which leads on international biodiversity-related issues – supports the work under the Agreement as often as possible in the form of voluntary contributions and by backing larger processes and projects, for example on renewable energy, climate change and the illegal killing of birds.

The German National Focal Point for AEWA, Oliver Schall, works within the Division for Species Protection and he is pictured here at the recent AEWA MOP with his colleagues (seated right to left), Dr Christiane Paulus, the Head of Section (Nature Protection), Gerhard Adams, the Head of Division and Ms Dana Wiemann, who deals with budgetary matters.

Oliver cites his favourite AEWA species as being the Eurasian Curlew because of its nice song, impressive appearance and its preferred habitat.
