People behind AEWA - The Team of the Department of Environmental Affairs, South Africa

Bonn, 26 November 2015 - South Africa became a Contracting Party to AEWA in April 2002. The dedicated South African team hosted the African Regional Preparatory Meeting for the 6th Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Agreement in Cape Town from 25-27 August 2015 in support of the African Initiative. This meeting was preceded by a Bird Poisoning Workshop on the 24th which was well attended by representatives from academic and research institutions, government, and NGOs.

On behalf of South Africa, the Department of Environmental Affairs took the lead in organizing the successful meetings together with the AEWA Secretariat for the Africa Group and the delegates were welcomed by the Honourable Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs, Ms Barbara Thomson. Depicted on the picture are some of the Department of Environmental Affairs officials showing the power of “together we can” who, working together with the AEWA Secretariat ensured the success of the meeting.
