2026/003: Urgent Call for Contributions to Replenish the AEWA Trust Fund
Through Resolution 9.9 on Financial and Administrative Matters, adopted by the 9th Session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP9) on 14 November 2025, the Meeting of the Parties strongly invited all Parties to make one-off emergency replenishment contributions to the AEWA Trust Fund as early as possible after MOP9 to restore adequate liquidity and ensure the continuous operation and effective functioning of the Agreement and its Secretariat. It was further decided that working capital be maintained at a level of at least 30 per cent of the average estimated annual expenditure for the triennium 2026-2028 or 300,000 Euros, whichever is higher.
As informed prior to MOP9 through Notification 2025/019 of 17 October 2025, the Secretariat is facing a financial crisis due to the low liquidity of the AEWA Trust Fund, which jeopardises its ability to sustain operations and fulfil its mandate. During the discussions on financial matters at MOP9, Parties took note of this situation with deep concern which led to the above decisions taken to ensure the replenishment of the Trust Fund at the required working capital.
No replenishment contribution has been pledged so far. Please kindly contact the Secretariat at aewa.secretariat@unep-aewa.org in case you are able to make a financial contribution towards the AEWA Trust Fund or if you require more information on this matter.
