2025/017: AEWA 30th Anniversary Pledge Campaign

On 16 June 2025, the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) marked its 30th Anniversary—three decades of international cooperation in migratory waterbird conservation across Africa and Eurasia. 

To commemorate this milestone, the AEWA Secretariat is pleased to launch the AEWA 30th Anniversary Pledge Campaign. This anniversary initiative invites all AEWA Contracting Parties, AEWA partners, and other stakeholders to pledge specific, actionable commitments to support migratory waterbird conservation and the critical habitats they rely on. The campaign aims to: 

• Encourage tangible actions for waterbird and habitat conservation; 

• Raise awareness of AEWA’s mission and achievements; 

• Showcase the power of collective action and diverse support across borders and sectors; 

• Amplify engagement through AEWA’s website, social media, and other outreach channels. 

All submitted pledges will be reviewed by the AEWA Secretariat, and then featured on the AEWA 30th Anniversary webpage, and on AEWA’s social media platforms (LinkedIn & Facebook), to inspire collective action and momentum.  

We warmly encourage all AEWA Parties, partners and stakeholders to use the occasion of the 30th Anniversary to reconfirm their commitment to international waterbird conservation by submitting a pledge. Pledges received before the 1 November 2025 will be featured as 30th Anniversary Pledges at AEWA MOP9 - the 9th Session of the Meeting of the Parties to AEWA taking place from the 11 – 14 November in Bonn, Germany.  

Together, let us ensure a thriving future for migratory waterbirds and their habitats across our Flyway!
