AEWA Sub-regional Focal Point Coordinators for Africa (2026-2028)
The role of the AEWA Sub-Regional Focal Point Coordinators (SRFPCs) in Africa is to guide implementation of the Agreement (in particular the AEWA Plan of Action for Africa) at the sub-regional level, as well as motivate and initiate action and provide advice for implementation.
Each of the five sub-regions in Africa - Northern, Eastern, Southern, Western and Central Africa – is represented by a SRFPC. The SRFPC is by default the AEWA Standing Committee regional representative for the respective sub-region. For sub-regions with no Party representative on the AEWA Standing Committee, the AEWA National Focal Points from that sub-region nominate a SRFPC from among themselves.
The concept of AEWA SRFPCs for Africa was established by the 5th Meeting of the Parties to AEWA through Resolution 5.9.
See the Terms of Reference adopted by the AEWA MOP7 (December 2018) for more information on the roles, responsibilities and functioning of the SRFPCs.
