Restauration des zones humides essentielles pour les oiseaux d'eau : Le projet de biodiversité du bassin du lac Tanganyika

Alors que le monde entier se mobilise en faveur de la Décennie des Nations unies pour la restauration des écosystèmes, des efforts de collaboration sont en cours pour sauvegarder et réhabiliter certains habitats de zones humides transfrontalières les plus critiques d'Afrique. « Les zones humides sont un élément vital de la biodiversité. Elles jouent un rôle crucial dans le soutien des écosystèmes, l'atténuation du changement climatique et sont essentielles pour les oiseaux d'eau migrateurs - en tant que zones de repos, de ravitaillement, de reproduction, de nidification et d'alimentation », déclare Jacques Trouvilliez, secrétaire exécutif de l'Accord sur la conservation des oiseaux d'eau migrateurs d'Afrique-Eurasie (AEWA).
