Memorandum of Cooperation signed between AEWA and OMPO

A Memorandum of Cooperation has been concluded between the AEWA Secretariat and „Oiseaux migrateurs du paléarctique” (OMPO). The Memorandum formalises a strong cooperation between AEWA and OMPO, which already has a long-standing tradition. In addition to the active role OMPO has been playing as an observer in the AEWA Technical Committee for the last 6 years, it has also continuously provided valuable support in the recruitment of Parties to AEWA and enhanced the implementation of AEWA through its scientific and monitoring programmes on migratory birds in the Baltic states, Ukraine, Belarus, the Russian Federation as well as Western Africa. WOW Project Update: New Flyway-based Training & Awareness Raising Framework under development - and regional Training Boards established

A new draft Training & Awareness Raising Framework that integrates the flyways concept into wetland management planning has been elaborated by Wetlands International and other international project partners in the context of the Wings Over Wetlands (WOW) Project for stakeholders in the AEWA region. Once finalized, the new Framework, will become a practical tool for streamlining and for building wetland and waterbird management and conservation capacity throughout the African-Eurasian region. The AEWA Waterbird Conservation Award: Call for nominations for the AEWA Waterbird Conservation Award, cycle 2008

In 2005 the Standing Committee of AEWA established the AEWA Waterbird Conservation Award in order to recognise and honour institutions and individuals within the Agreement area that have significantly contributed towards the conservation and sustainable use of waterbirds. The award is to be presented triennially at each ordinary session of the Meeting of the Parties. The second round will take place in 2008 and the prizes will be awarded at the opening ceremony of the 4th Session of the Meeting of the Parties in September 2008 in Antananarivo, Madagascar. AEWA attends international conference on raptors

AEWA Executive Secretary Mr. Bert Lenten was among the conservation experts, policy makers and key stakeholders attending the International Conference on Migratory Raptors that took place from 22-25 October in Loch Lomond, Scotland, United Kingdom. Delegates from 44 countries gathered to develop an international agreement for the conservation of endangered migratory birds of prey across Europe, Africa and parts of Asia. [read on]

Re-advertised vacancy for the following consultancy: Coordinator for the Lesser White-fronted Goose Single Species Action Plan

The UNEP/AEWA Secretariat is inviting again applications for this short-term post (extendable 12 months, funding permitting) to be based in the Agreement's Secretariat in Bonn, Germany. The closing date for submission of applications by interested candidates is 14 December 2007.
