Just a few days to go - World Migratory Bird is approaching fast!

The countdown for World Migratory Bird
Day 2009 (WMBD)
has begun! In a few days time hundreds, if not thousands
of people from every corner of the world will be taking
part in WMBD celebrations. Already now 82 unique WMBD events
and activities in 37 countries have been registered on the
WMBD website and more will be coming in over the next few
days.

A huge variety of events
are being organised around the world to mark this year’s
WMBD theme “Barriers to migration”,
which aims to raise awareness on the many man-made barriers
migratory birds face along their journeys.

World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD)
is an annual event to help raise awareness for the need
to conserve migratory birds around the world. On the second
weekend each May, people around the world take action
and organise public events such as bird festivals, education
programmes and birdwatching excursions to celebrate WMBD.

16 years, whereby children can learn more about the many
man-made threats to migratory birds and express their
thoughts and ideas as to how man-made structures can disturb
bird migration and how this can be avoided.
