Parties are requested to pay particular attention to the credentials of their representatives. In accordance with the Rules of Procedure adopted by the MOP, delegations should be granted powers by an appropriate authority (Head of State, Head of Government or Minister of Foreign Affairs) enabling them to participate and represent their governments fully in the businesss of the Meeting including adopting amendments to the Annexes, Resolutions and Recommendations.

Parties are strongly encouraged to send a copy of the credentials to the Secretariat in advance of MOP6, preferably by email and to submit the original before the opening of the session.

   Documents

Each Party shall submit a report on its implementation of the Agreement to the Agreement Secretariat (Agreement text Article V, paragraph 1c). The deadline for submission of national reports for MOP6 is 12 May 2015.

Proposals for amendments may be made by any Party. Please note that the text of any proposed amendment and the reason for it must be communicated to the Agreement Secretariat (aewa.secretariat@unep-aewa.org) no later than 11 June 2015.

 

New proposals should be submitted to the Secretariat (aewa.secretariat@unep-aewa.org) in writing at least 60 days before the opening of the meeting. The deadline for submission is thus 9 September 2015.

 

 

Practical Information

The 6th Session of the Meeting of the Parties to AEWA will take place in Bonn on the UN Campus at the Altes Abgeordnetenhochhaus (AAH). The AHH offers modern meeting facilities and equipment.

How to get to the UN Campus

By tram (U-Bahn)

At Bonn Central Station, take tram lines 63 or 16 (direction → Bad Godesberg) or tram line 66 (direction → Bad Honnef, Königswinter or Ramersdorf) to the stop “Heussallee/Museumsmeile”. Link to timetable tram 66.

From Bad Godesberg train station (Bahnhof), take tram lines 63/16 (direction → Hauptbahnhof) to the stop “Heussallee/Museumsmeile”. Link to timetable tram 63 and 16.

Upon arrival at the stop “Heussallee/Museumsmeile”, exit the station and follow the signs to the UN Campus. Continue walking straight ahead for about 5 minutes until you reach the Guard House of the UN Campus.

By bus

From Bonn Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) or Bad Godesberg city centre, take Bus lines 610 or 611 to the stop “Deutsche Welle”. Link to timetable bus 610; Link to timetable bus 611. The Guard House of the UN Campus is less than 100 meters away from the bus stop.

Tram or bus tickets can be obtained from self-service ticket machines at the stations or on the bus or tram itself. If you are travelling in and around Bonn, press the 1b button, one-way ticket (1 trip) costs € 2.80 and a multiple ticket (4 trips) costs € 10.40.

Excursion to the Ramsar Site / IBA / SPA “Unterer Niederrhein”

Guided walks through Bonn city centre:

During a 2-hour guided walking tour, delegates will have the opportunity to explore Bonn’s picturesque city centre and stop at the most important sites including the birthplace of famous German composer Ludwig van Beethoven and the historic marketplace. Tours are available in English in French and start at 10.30am. 

At the registration desk, participants will be asked to choose which of the excursions they would like to take part in. 

 

The Secretariat has blocked rooms at various hotels in Bonn. Hotel bookings can be made through the following website: http://www.bonn-region.de/events/aewa-2015.html

Please note that you will receive a FREE ticket for local transport (including the airport shuttle from Cologne/Bonn – SB60) if you book through this website. Please print out your hotel confirmation and public transportation ticket before arriving in Bonn.

Please note that as of 1 July 2015, an overnight stay tax of 5% on the room accommodation rate, established by the City of Bonn, will come into force. All guests staying at hotels in Bonn are obliged to pay this in addition to the normal room rate.

However, an exception is made for those travelers visiting Bonn for business purposes. In order to avoid having to pay the additional tax, please bring along your official MOP6 invitation letter, as well as the email confirmation of your registration and show these documents when you check in to your hotel.

 

An official visa letter will be sent to all participants requiring visas. This must be attached to the German visa application. Visas can be obtained from your nearest German embassy or consulate. General information for visa applicants

 

Bonn is located approximately twenty minutes journey time south of Cologne (Köln) and two hours north-west of Frankfurt/Main and can be reached from three airports, Cologne/Bonn Airport, Düsseldorf Airport and Frankfurt International Airport.

Cologne/ Bonn airport

Delegates arriving at Cologne/Bonn Airport can reach Bonn city centre by taxi (the fare from the airport to the city centre is approximately € 45.00), or by bus (SB 60), departing from the bus stop at Terminal 1 to the city centre (final stop “Hauptbahnhof”, main railway station) costing about € 7.90.

Düsseldorf airport

If arriving at Düsseldorf airport, take the sky train to the train station Düsseldorf Flughafen (about 10 minutes). From here, there are direct trains to Bonn Central Station (RE5; direction → Koblenz Hbf), which run hourly and have a travel time of just over an hour. A one-way ticket costs € 17.30 (2nd class).

Frankfurt airport

Participants arriving at Frankfurt airport should go to the Frankfurt airport long-distance train station, by following the signs to ‘Frankfurt Flughafen Fernhahnhof’ (Frankfurt airport long-distance train station). This station is in the AIRail Terminal, next to Terminal 1. Trains arrive at and depart from platforms 4 to 7. Participants are recommended to travel either by Inter City Express (ICE) train to Bonn/Siegburg or by direct train to Bonn central station (Bonn Hauptbahnhof). 

High-speed ICE trains to Siegburg/ Bonn or Intercity (IC)/Eurocity (EC) trains to Bonn central station (Hauptbahnhof) leave from the Frankfurt airport long-distance train station two to three times every hour between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. The high-speed train journey to Siegburg/Bonn takes 40 minutes. Trains leave at least once an hour. Taxis are available for approximately € 30.00 from Siegburg to Bonn. You can also catch the tram line 66 from Siegburg to Bonn (ticket price € 5.00, please press 3 on the ticket machine). The tram journey takes 25 minutes.

Alternatively the IC/EC train, also from Frankfurt long-distance train station, goes directly to Bonn central station (in the centre of Bonn). Travel time is between 1.5 and 2 hours. Second-class tickets for the ICE cost around € 60 one way, for the IC around € 40. The ICE train can sometimes also be booked with your flight. For train departures, check the German railway site. Type in ‘Frankfurt Flughafen’ as the departure station and ‘Bonn HBF’ or ‘Siegburg’ as the arrival station.

Currency

Germany’s currency is the Euro (€). As of 1 December 2014, the exchange rate was € 0.80 for 1 USD. Credit cards are accepted in hotels and in most restaurants in Bonn, but not in many shops.

Weather in Bonn

In November, the weather in Bonn tends to be cold and rainy with temperatures sometimes dropping to around 0 degrees.

Electricity

In Germany, 220 volts, 50 Hz European plugs with two circular metal pins are used.
