Due to ongoing security concerns in Kenya, the AEWA Secretariat has decided to move the venue of its 8th Technical Committee Meeting from Lake Naivasha, Kenya to Bonn, Germany.

The ongoing political unrest in Kenya following the presidential elections in December 2007 has led to an increased UN security level, making it impossible for the Secretariat to conduct the TC Meeting in Kenya. Under these circumstances the decision was made to hold the 8th Meeting of the Technical Committee Meeting (2-5 March 2008) at the UN Premises in Bonn, Germany.

The UNEP/AEWA Secretariat regrets having had to make this decision and hopes that the situation in Kenya will soon be resolved democratically and peacefully. The Executive Secretary has thanked the Kenyan Wildlife Service for offering to host the TC8 meeting and expressed his hope that the next Technical Committee Meeting, scheduled for 2009, will be able to take place in Kenya.
