1 February BirdLife
International and its European partners launched
the Spring Alive event for 2008. Children from 30 countries
around Europe are invited to record their first personal
observation of four bird species, with a view to watching
the progress of spring across Europe.
Spring Alive is a project that is co-sponsored
by AEWA and organised by the Polish BirdLife International
Partner OTOP
(Polish Society for the Protection of Birds).
Its core component is an interactive website, which gives
children and families the possibility to record the arrival
of migratory bird species. Last year Spring Alive collected
over 16 000 observations. Due to the results it was shown
that spring was slightly earlier in 2007 than in 2006. Experts
think that the changes of bird migration habitats are caused
by climate change.
