March 2008 -The 8th Meeting of the Technical
Committee of AEWA took place at the UN Premises in Bonn,
Germany from 3-5 March 2008. The meeting brought together
regional representatives, experts and observers from across
the AEWA region and was the final gathering of the Committee
before the 4th session of the Meeting of the
Parties (MOP4) – scheduled to take place in September
in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
The meeting's plenary sessions were complemented
by a series of evening workshops. Over the course of three
days the TC reviewed and signed off several international
reviews required by paragraph 7.4 of the Action Plan covering
a variety of waterbird conservation issues and drafted and
approved a total of 10 resolutions for further submission
to the Standing Committee and MOP4.
The TC also agreed on a time frame for
the finalisation of seven additional resolutions and reviewed
a number of possible amendments to the AEWA Action Plan.
The Committee suggested a revision of the frequency of international
reviews as described in paragraph 7.5 of the Action Plan
and came up with suggestions to add new paragraphs addressing
conservation measures for waterbirds in the marine environment.
The Technical Committee also considered
priority activities for the following triennium, reviewed
the definition and guidance for the application of two Table
1 criteria and approved an updated list of International
Implementation Priorities for 2009-2011.
The 8th AEWA TC Meeting was the last one

the last nine years. Amongst them are the Chair of the TC,

Africa), Mr. Jérôme Mokoko (Regional Representative
