 The
groundbreaking book ‘Waterbirds around the World’
gives a compilation and overview of today’s knowledge
on the conservation of waterbird species and their flyways.
It provides substantial information on the ecology and behaviour
of migrating waterbirds and touches on many cross-cutting
topics such as the management of flyways and upcoming issues
like climate change and avian influenza. New data on 170
globally threatened and near threatened species is presented.
With altogether 264 papers relating to 614 waterbirds species
from 162 countries it has a truly global scope and represents
the work and research of leading scientists and experts
from around the world. The publication is an important resource
for conservation policy-makers and for future conservation
work. The book was officially
release at an international event in The Hague, Netherlands
on 12 March 2007.
Excerpts from the book are electronically
available from the JNCC
