The
Malian Ministries of Environment, Fisheries and Livestock,
Handcraft and Tourism, National Education, Territorial Administration
and Local Communities, Agriculture, Mining Energy and Water
have created the Ramsar National Committee for Mali. It
includes senior government representatives, university professors,
government organisations and NGOs with different qualifications
and expertise in the field of wetland management. In addition
to the government representatives, the Committee also includes
the Head of IUCN and Wetlands International Offices in the
country and the focal points of the biodiversity related
MEAs, such as AEWA, CBD etc. AEWA appreciates the establishment
of the National Ramsar Committee, which strengthens the
synergy between the Ramsar Convention and AEWA at the national
level.
The main objectives of the Committee are,
among others, the implementation of the National Wetlands
Policy, the preparation of the COP’s sessions, the
coordination of the fundraising effort for wetland management
and the preparation and organisation of the World Wetlands
Day.
