January, Wageningen, The Netherlands – Wetlands
International announced the release of the latest edition
of the 'Waterbird Population Estimates', a publication which
presents estimates and trends of waterbird populations throughout
the world. The publication, which is co-sponsored by AEWA,
is based on the monitoring data derived from the International
Waterbird Census (IWC), the most comprehensive
annually conducted waterbird census in the world.
The Fourth Edition of the
'Waterbird Population Estimates' published today provides
a comprehensive update on information last provided in 2002
and summarizes population data on 878 waterbird species.
The new edition reveals an alarming global decrease in waterbird
populations since 2002 and pinpoints Asia as the continent
where this negative trend is greatest. For more information
please see the WI
Press Release or order the publication here.
