On 9 July 2005 the Polish BirdLife partner OTOP (Polish
Society for the Protection of Birds), met with the AEWA
Secretariat at Museum Koenig in Bonn for a common event
to present the new "Spring Alive" project, which will start
in February 2006, to the general public. The project aims
to increase the awareness of European citizens for birds,
the natural environment and the need for cross-border conservation.
Its core component is an interactive website to encourage
children and families especially to observe and record the
arrival of migratory bird species each year.
The “Spring Alive” event was one of several
organized at Museum Koenig to mark the 10th Anniversary
of AEWA. The museum currently hosts the eight-week exhibition
“Impressions of traveling birds”, which consists
of vivid watercolours of waterbirds painted by the Belgian
animal illustrator Yves Fagniart and a selection of information
panels about AEWA. There is also a video about the White
Stork provided by the German BirdLife partner “Naturschutzbund”
(NABU) and exhibits of waterbirds. It can be seen until
28 August at
Forschungsmuseum Alexander Koenig,
Museumsmeile Adenauerallee 160, 53113 Bonn
Tuesday, Thursday to Sunday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Wednesday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m
On 24 August 2005 at 7 p.m. the AEWA Secretariat
will show the film “Traveling birds” at Museum
Koenig. Close-ups of geese, swans, storks and other migratory
birds on their annual journey across the globe give a fascinating
insight into the world of bird migration. The film will
be followed by a discussion with the Executive Secretary
of AEWA, Mr. Bert Lenten.
