1st Meeting of the AEWA Grey Crowned-crane International Working Group Convenes in Entebbe

Entebbe, 22 July 2019 – the International Working Group for the Grey Crowned-crane is meeting for the first time from 24 to 26 July following the adoption of the associated International Single Species Action Plan at AEWA MOP6 in 2015.

The primary aim of the meeting is to operationalize the Action Plan by agreeing implementation priorities for the Range States both individually and collectively at a supranational level.  Initial focus will concentrate on the next three and half years covering the period 2019-2022.  Encouragingly, most of the principal Range States are registered to participate.

The International Working Group is being coordinated by the Endangered Wildlife Trust / International Crane Foundation (ICF) under the leadership of Kerryn Morrison through a Memorandum of Cooperation with the UNEP/AEWA Secretariat.

The meeting has been made possible thanks to a generous contribution of the European Commission's Global Public Goods and Challenges (GPGC) Programme in support of the AEWA African Initiative as well as to co-funding by the hosts, the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities of the Republic of Uganda.

More information about the meeting and the meeting documents can be found on the dedicated webpage on the AEWA website.

The European Commission were recognized as Champion Plus for their generous support of and commitment towards the AEWA African Initiative for the period 2017-2020. This meeting has been funded with the contribution granted by the European Commission under the Migratory Species Champion Programme and through the Global Public Goods and Challenges (GPGC Programme) Cooperation Agreement with UN Environment.
