This unique presentation of South Africa’s
amazing avifauna was one of 5200 creative activities which
were carried out in 181 countries in support of the global
350.org’s International Day of climate change on 24
October 2009.
The
great success of the 350-24-24 Bird Photo Challenge in South
Africa highlights the great interest in bird photography
in South Africa, with an incredible total of 365 different
bird species photographed in a single day!
This amounts to 15 more species than the
targeted number of 350 – the number that leading scientists
say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide - measured
in "Parts Per Million" in our atmosphere. According
to the 350 campaign, 350 PPM— is the number humanity
needs to get back to as soon as possible to avoid runaway
climate change.
